“He Understood What I Was Going Through”

Robb McBride, BSN, RN“Every time he enters our room, we feel safe. Knowing he has the skills to better our situation, really helps.”

When Larry Potts wrote Methodist about his nurse, Robb McBride, BSN, RN, he didn’t hold back when talking about the care his wife Laura received.

“His verbal skills between nurse and patient are excellent,” wrote Larry. “He carries himself with pride in his work. This man will go the extra distance to make a patient feel safe.”

In the several months Laura was in the hospital, she and Larry leaned on McBride to provide both comfort and care.

“I had a bruise on my leg that went from my hip to past my knee,” said Laura. “It was black and it was painful. Robb was there and very understanding. When I hurt, I cry, and he would just give me a great big hug and say it’s okay. He understood what I was going through. Bless him, I just love him to death.”

Larry Potts and Laura Knoebel thank Robb McBride for providing excellent care during Laura’s hospital stay.

It was for these reasons that Larry and Laura nominated Robb for the April DAISY Award for Methodist Hospital and Methodist Women’s Hospital, an honor given each month to an outstanding nurse who exemplifies The Meaning of Care. They were there to see him receive the award.

“I just think that we just hit it off and I took the time to talk to them, listen to them,” said Robb as he teared up. “It’s what I try to do.”

“I could tell he’s a nurse who cares,” said Larry.

“If he said he was going to do something, he did. He took good care of me,” said Laura. “Over and above, he’s got 150 percent of The Meaning of Care.”

The DAISY Award is a nationwide program that rewards and celebrates extraordinary skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day. Nurses can be nominated by anyone, including patients, family members, physicians, supervisors or their peers.
